The Bay State Bobcats opened the “Battle for Massachusetts” Series at home on Friday and Saturday nights against their in-state rivals, the Northeast Generals. On Friday night, the Generals won 6-2 but the ‘Cats pulled through with a 7-3 win on Saturday night.
Northeast 6 @ Bay State 2 – The Generals won their 4th straight game and moved back into 1st place in the East Division with a 6-2 win. Matthew Coe scored twice in the 3rd period for the Generals in the win. All the other Northeast goals came in the 1st period as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead with markers from Deacon More, Payton Felix, Nick Wracker, and Austin Crisp. The Bobcats got their goals from Zakary Justice and John Kosa. Generals goalie Espen Reager made 34 saves in the win, while Nathan Moffitt took the loss with 3 saves. Zack Roncarati made 52 saves in a relief appearance.
Northeast 3 @ Bay State 7 – Zack Roncarati stole the show between the Bay State pipes with a stunning 53 saves on 56 shots as the Bobcats ran wild at the other end of the rink, dropping the Generals 7-3 on Saturday. Nick Ramm and Sean Gorman each struck for Northeast to cancel out Bay State’s goal from Thomas Hoffman in the first period, but a five-goal barrage by the Bobcats — featuring goals from JayVon Fogelgren, John Kosa, Troy Harwell, Jerzy Gus and another from Hoffman — gave them a comfortable advantage. Gabe Stoner of Northeast and Caden Hart of Bay State each added another goal for their respective teams in the third after the decisive sandwich stanza. Generals netminders Espen Reager and Timothy Pesek were busy in their net as well, combining for 33 saves in the loss.
The Generals fell to 7-4-0 on the season, while the ‘Cats improve to 4-6-0. The “Battle for Massachusetts” is tied 1-1 heading into this upcoming week. Game 3 will be at home in Holyoke on Thursday for a 12:30pm puck drop, followed by Games 4 and 5 on the road in Attleboro on Saturday and Sunday for 7pm and 3pm puck drops. All games will be broadcasted on HockeyTV.
