‘Cats split Opening Weekend

The Bay State Bobcats opened up their 2022-2023 campaign at home against the Long Beach Sharks in a 2-game series. The ‘Cats fell in their Home Opener on Saturday, 7-3, but bounced back with a 6-4 win on Sunday.

 

 

Long Beach 7 @ Bay State 3: On Saturday night’s “Home Opener,” the Long Beach Sharks topped the Bay State Bobcats in a 7-3 final score. Long Beach took a 2-0 lead after the first period with Jack Fitzpatrick and Dylan Harbour scoring. In the second, Tyler Fisher and Jack Fitzpatirck added to the Sharks lead for a 4-0 score. Beck Avery answered back for the Bobcats making the score 4-1. Late in the period, Jeremy Henk netted his second of the season to end the period with a score of 5-1. Early in the final frame, Colin McPherren added to the Sharks lead to make the score 6-1. The Bobcats added back-to-back goals with Brian Woak and Jason Melanson for a 6-3 score. Jack Fitzpatirdk added his third goal of the night for a hat-trick win for the Sharks, 7-3.

Long Beach 4 @ Bay State 6 – On Sunday, the Bobcats rode a two-goal game from both Landen Schoonover and Jason Melanson to give them their first win of the 2022-23 season in a 6-4 win over the Sharks on Sunday. The two teams were tied a 2-2 after two periods as Melanson and Nate Mastrony scored for Bay State, while Noah Hope and Matus Fialka scored for the Sharks. In the 3rd period, Schoonover scored two goals, Melanson added another and Paul Johnson also scored. Dylan Harbour and Jack Fitzpatrick scored the other goals for Long Beach. AJ Cooper made 46 saves in the win, while Colten McIntyre made 24 saves in the loss.

 

 

The ‘Cats start the new season 1-1-0-0 while the Sharks move to 2-4-0-0. Congratulations to Head Coach Rob Lane on notching his first Junior Hockey win from behind the bench on Sunday!
