The Bay State Bobcats hosted their East Division rival, the Norwich Sea Captains, for Saturday Night Hockey in Holyoke this past weekend. It was their lone game on the weekend. The game was nothing less than exciting and nail biting as Andrew Yocum made 49 saves for the Sea Captains to keep them in it until the final whistle. On the opposite end, Ben Di Fiore was “cool, calm, and collective” as he snatched 27 saves on 28 shots and limited the Sea Captains from second and even third chance opportunites.
Norwich 1 @ Bay State 2 – Second-period strikes from Landon Boothe and Tima Basarab pushed the Bobcats past the Sea Captains for a 2-1 win on Saturday. Teagen Beier put Norwich on the board in the third period, but Ben Di Fiore stopped 27 of 28 total shots to backstop Bay State’s victory. Norwich’s Andrew Yocum finished with 49 saves in the tight defeat.
“The offense was firing from all cylinders,” Head Coach Anthony Langevin was quoted saying. “Once again, we struggled to find the back of the net, though. But in this one, two highlight reel goals from Boothe and Basarab were all that were needed as our defense played their best defensive game of the season. I was impressed with Di Fiore in net, as well, as he’s taken control of the last two games and is 2-0-0 in those games.”
The Bobcats improve to 3-4-0-1 while the Sea Captains fall to 2-4-0-0. The Navy and Gold will be back in action on Wednesday for a 12:30pm puck drop as they welcome the defending East Division Champion, Northeast Generals, into town for the lunch time start. This will be the first contest of the season between the Generals and Bobcats. The Generals have started 4-0-0 on the young season. We hope to see you back at #TheFitz on Wednesday!
